Lund University

The Faculty of Engineering at Lund University is among the leading engineering faculties in Europe, with more than 7000 undergraduates and 800 postgraduates. Founded in 1961, as an independent institute, it today belongs to Lund University, which is one of Scandinavia’s largest institutions for education and research with about 41 000 students and 7500 employees. The research carried out is of high international standard and is world-leading in several areas, such as nano-technology, combusting engineering and wireless communications, water resources, automatic control, laser physics and biotechnology. Thanks to the fact that the faculty of engineering belongs to a large university, cooperation between different disciplines is stimulated in a unique way. Consequently, ULUND is recognized for its cross disciplinary research, e.g. between the medical and technical sciences and between different disciplines within the engineering field. ULUND has close contact to business life. Ideon, Sweden’s first Research Park, is our neighbour. Moreover, international companies as Sony Mobile, Alfa Laval, Ericsson, Axis and Tetra Pak are based in Lund. ULUND has long experience in channel characterization and modelling, baseband processing and system design of wireless communications for 5G and beyond, as well as control over wireless. In particular, ULUND is one of the pioneer research organizations in the massive MIMO area with early contributions to the understanding of massive MIMO performance in realistic channels and the influence on performance by different baseband processing choices and implementation. ULUND was the first institute to demonstrate a real-time testbed for massive MIMO, and in addition, ULUND has world-leading laboratory and measurement facilities for channel characterization, which will be used in MINTS.
