Nokia invests in technologies important in a world where billions of devices are connected. We are focused on two businesses: network infrastructure software, hardware and services, which we offer through Nokia Networks; and advanced technology development and licensing, which we pursue through Nokia Technologies. Each of these businesses is a leader in its respective field. In addition Nokia is home to Nokia Bell Labs.
Nokia Bell Labs is one of the largest research and development facilities in the communications industry. Researchers working at Bell Labs are credited with the development of radio astronomy, the transistor, the laser, the charge-coupled device (CCD), information theory, the operating systems Unix, Plan 9, Inferno, and C, C++, and S. Eight Nobel Prizes have been awarded for work completed at Bell Laboratories.
Nokia Bell Labs Ireland have a long-year expertise in 3G – 5G research and standardization, especially in the fields of system architecture, radio access networks, spectrum management, SON, core networks and services, IoT and machine type communications, cloud technology, and radio interfaces in particular on multicast / broadcast, relaying, CoMP and massive MIMO. The Future Indoor Networking Research team in particular is active in all areas related to future evolution, deployment, and operation of small cell and indoor network networks to enable exponential growth in mobile data traffic. The group played a key role to the development of Small Cells solutions for LTE and CDMA systems, as well as to the definition of next-generation architectures. Their most relevant experience lies in the field of the design, deployment, and operation of heterogeneous cellular networks for both indoor and outdoor applications.
