Sony Research Center in Lund is one of Sony’s largest R&D sites outside Japan. The site has a Research & Incubation department with three labs focusing on 5G and IoT research, concept development and standardization activities. Key topics and areas driven by these Research & Standardization labs in Lund are low power machine type communications, positioning, massive MIMO and mmWave front end architectures. Lab experts are responsible for mmWave prototyping and contributions to the 5G mmWave standardization in 3GPP RAN4 working group and positioning in 3GPP RAN1 and RAN2 working groups on behalf of Sony corporation. There are 30 full time employees in the research labs. The research labs are supporting and driving Sony forward to strengthen the mobile system, connectivity assets and competence areas by tight collaboration with academia.
